November 2020
Dear Friends,
We want to express our heartfelt wishes to you for a happy and joyous Thanksgiving, filled with the loving blessings of God and our Gurus.
At this time when the world and our country are facing many difficulties, and many of us may be having personal challenges as well, there is still so much we have to be grateful for. Through the divine guideposts of our Guru’s teachings and the faithful practice of meditation by which we attune ourselves to God’s unfailing power and strength, we have the tools to keep ourselves anchored in divine peace no matter what the circumstances. Facing each experience with faith and courage, we find that each trial is converted into a stepping stone that brings us closer to God. How fortunate, how blessed we all are to have been drawn to this path of Self-Realization!
One wonderful way we can help others, our country, and ourselves during times of uncertainty is through our daily meditations. When we meditate and become centered in God’s peace, those rays of peace radiate outward, exerting an uplifting influence on the world. We know that many of you, in addition to your private meditations, are finding much support in the online meditation services that Self-Realization Fellowship offers daily. If you have not yet participated and would like to do so, please follow this link: SRF Online Meditation Center.

In addition to meditation, we can also exert a positive influence on the world through the power of prayer. Guruji encouraged all SRF members to incorporate into their daily spiritual routine the practice of praying for others, and he gave us scientific techniques for sending out healing vibrations to those in need and to the entire planet. Three times a day the monks and nuns at SRF ashrams and members from around the world join together to offer healing prayers for those in need and for world harmony and peace. We invite you to join us in these group efforts: Pray Throughout the Day.
Another way many of you have been making a positive impact is through your material support of the Glendale Temple. We want to take this opportunity to thank everyone that stepped forward earlier this year to help us repair our roof, prune damaged trees, and upgrade the sanitation facilities in our bathrooms. Many of you also responded to our last newsletter with donations to help us cover the basic monthly expenses of our Temple such as cleaning, gardening, and utilities. These are all wonderful examples of how you are making such a positive difference. Thank you! If you would like to continue to help us offset our monthly expenses, we would be truly grateful. Please visit the Glendale Temple donations page and choose from the options provided. Paramahansaji was always so deeply appreciative whenever devotees gave to help his divine work, and we know his blessings reach out to you for your generous spirit.
We are happy to share with you another milestone that was reached in the dissemination of Guruji’s teachings—the release of the SRF Lessons Supplement Series, which is available to students who have completed the Basic Series of Lessons. I’ve been experiencing much joy studying these Supplement Lessons which include a wealth of new material from previously unpublished talks and writings of Paramahansa Yogananda. We encourage you to enroll for them if you haven’t yet done so. For more information, please visit the Member Portal on the SRF Website or call SRF Mother Center.
Let me share with you a quotation from one of these Lessons (Lesson 22: The Joy of Meditation) which seems so relevant to understanding how to overcome the divisiveness in today’s world. Paramahansaji said:
“Now is the time for you to make the effort to know God. In meditation, again and again throw the bombs of your deep yearning against the bulwark of silence, until its walls are broken down and God is revealed. Feel the love of God; then in every person you will see the face of the Father, the light of Love which is in all. You will find a magic, living relationship uniting the trees, the sky, the stars, all people, and all living things; and you will feel a oneness with them. This is the code of divine love.”
We pray that God may ever watch over you and your loved ones, and permeate your lives with His peace, love, and joy. May we each be centered in His loving presence and radiate that love to all.
In divine friendship,
Brother Bhumananda
