Sunday School
Paramahansa Yogananda felt deeply for the welfare of children and took a lifelong interest in their all-around education. Carrying on in this tradition, SRF Glendale Temple offers Youth Programs that aim to interest and inspire children to love God and teach them how bring God into their daily lives, and how to live a happy and balanced life through the practice of regular meditation.
How to Enroll
The first time a child attends our Sunday School, parents or guardians will need to fill out a registration form including emergency contact information.
Classroom Format
Our Sunday Schools are divided into different age groups. At the opening of every class children offer prayers to God and the SRF line of Gurus, followed by a brief period of meditation.
Story telling, games, arts/crafts, or other activities usually follow and are designed to show children how to develop moral character and noble qualities such as faith, respect, kindness, consideration for others, courage, and even-mindedness. These qualities then act as spiritual building blocks for the development of a child’s character and outlook for life.
Age Groups
Glendale Temple Sunday School children are roughly divided into the following age groups:
Preschool Boys/Girls - Ages 3 to 5
Primary Boys/Girls - Ages 6 to 8
Junior Boys/Girls - Ages 9 to 12
Teens Boys/Girls - Ages 13 and Up
Children under 3 - Children under 3 years of age should be accompanied by a parent. The Lecture Service can be seen and heard in the Parents & Infants Room.
Location
The Sunday School classrooms are located in the building adjacent to the main temple. Please see posted signs or ask an usher wearing a blue name badge for assistance. For a map of the Glendale Temple layout, click here.
Sunday School Hours
Sunday School classes begin at 11:00AM on Sundays, concurrent with the Lecture Service. Parents and guardians are encouraged to drop off their children at the classrooms between 10:45am and 11:00am, but no later than 11:00am.
